Avalon rare metals investors "find value in advanced stage Nechalacho strong REE
Avalon rare metals (TSX: AVL, OTCQX: AVARF) main asset is its 100% owned, advanced stage Nechalacho Rare Earth Deposit located in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Not more than a year ago the rare earth elements (REE) were on the radar of only a few analysts. Rare earth companies like Avalon worked tirelessly to communicate the next global shortage of Rees. Today, the market REE is in flames, and Avalon Nechalacho think is one of the highest quality, REE undeveloped deposits in the world, unique in its exceptional enrichment of heavy rare earths.
Intelligence Resources: The last time we talked, a year ago, its main reservoir had been established and was one of the most largest known rare earth deposits in the world, with many of the more valuable heavy rare earth elements. You have announced a new resource estimate in January to Nechalacho deposit based on the drilling of summer 2009. Can you talk a little about the size of the update, where were you and where you now?
Don Bubar: Yes, in January we revealed the results of definition drilling from 2009 and how much of that can now large inferred resource classified as indicated. We have increased the resources listed in the Area Nechalacho baseline by 102% to nine million tonnes grading 1.86% TREO. Of course, did not increase the total resources, but it was a big step forward in which we now know that we have more than enough tonnage to support pre-feasibility study. Thus, engineers can now begin to make the mine development planning and engineering for this study.
It was very encouraging that we had very few misses in the fill hole, so we are demonstrating excellent continuity to the resource there. Also we are safer now than at other drilling sites will fill more similar success in the conversion of inferred resources to indicated resources.
RI: What is the short-term goal for deposit Nechalacho?
DB: To conduct a feasibility study and our goal for the spring of 2010.
RI: What is the geometry of the deposit as security?
DB: If you look at the general geometry of application, is a kind of cake layer flat-lying layers of varying degrees. The upper zone is a large area of lower degree and basal area is proving to be high-grade "sweet spot." Is the layer in the bottom of the package with a relatively high enrichment of the most valuable heavy rare earths.
RI: Is the basal area of prime focus for development?
DB: Yes heavy rare earth elements are really the story here and that's what you want to find in a rare earth deposit to have a reasonable chance of having a strong economically viable. Heavy rare earth really juice until value of mineral and rare earth are the real concerns of supply in the future. LREE are actually not so rare. That's important because you can not extract selectively heavy rare earth rare-earth light. You produce the fifteen or so strange lands as a group in any proportion to produce and separate ends later. So in a light rare earth deposit with a low proportion of heavy rare earth elements that can not produce heavier, you're stuck mostly produce light, Rees of lesser value.
RI: Can you give some examples of the heavy rare earth today could be used against a light rare earth?
DB: A pair Key applications that are actually holding a strong demand for electronic products, specifically rare-earth phosphors that are used to create color on any display screen, such as televisions and computer monitors. The Blackberry is also based on rare earth phosphors. There is no substitute for them.
The major use is in certain types of rare earth magnets. The neodymium-iron-boron magnet has become the high-strength magnet of choice in a lot of engines power as in the hybrid car. In high heat environments magnets are subject to demagnetization, which can be a problem with hybrid vehicles For example, when you have a combustion engine under the hood throwing a lot of heat. The heavy rare earth elements can be added to this formula to create a magnet heat-resistant magnet. So with changing technology, heavy rare earths are vital to many new applications in increasing numbers.
RI: So let's talk a bit about the tank. We know that is rich in heavy rare earth, we know that they are more valuable than the light rare earths, we know that new technologies HREEs demand. Do we have a sense of value Nechalacho target?
DB: Yes, although prices are not as accessible as the gold and base metals, there are services that follow the track. Once you know the distribution of light heavyweights face, tends to remain constant throughout storage, so you can take individual prices and grades individual one of the rare earth and develop an average value per kilo for distribution in particular. In our case, that the increased proportion of heavy rare earth made in excess of the basket in a base of dollars per kilo. Thus, while a large amount of light rare earth deposits are looking at $ 10 to $ 14 per kilo, we are looking at around $ 20 per kilo and even, in general terms.
RI: can translate into a value per tonne of ore?
DB: Yes, based on the grade of 2.0% TREO average, believe it will be somewhere in the $ 400 to $ 500 per tonne depending on the range where the individual metals prices end.
RI: What would you do for the operational costs of a deposit as Nechalacho add up to?
DB: Right now I think it will be around $ 200 - $ 250 per tonne. That's for me, an ore concentrate plant and then make a second step called hydrometallurgy, which will extract the rare earths in solution and then take it out in a mixed rare earth carbonate products still requires more processing after that.
RI: And you have only nine million tonnes in the indicated category, it seems even in this phase of drilling has a clear idea of the value before the feasibility phase. Judging by share price is a lot of investor interest Avalon at this time. Why do you think?
DB: There was much interest this year, initially Dines awakened by the Charter in May when there was that piece of rare earths. Avalon was not identified as one of the stocks to buy as a way to access the rare earths. It posterior been much publicity in the media and additional comments by the analysts out there who have continued to raise the profile of rare earths with the public investor.
RI: How Thor Lake local people see the potential of a mine here?
DB: Not much interest in this project among the communities premises for several reasons: It is different from what they're used, which is primarily gold and diamonds and are important elements in green technology. In addition, resource is large and offers the possibility of a long operation life, which resonates well with any community. We are also receiving some interest due to potential other value-added industries such spin-off. Northwest Territories in general has been a jurisdiction where mines have been developed and the product only leaves more value-added industries. Rare earths have excellent possibilities in this regard.
RI: What about between now and a mine in the Thor Lake and Nechalacho?
DB: A bankable feasibility study is the great task ahead. Two important components for the development of market and customers to identify and, secondly, make assessment environmental impact is essential to ensure the operation permits. It is a difficult process in the Northwest Territories. We're off and running already, but will take some time. We believe that this is a four-year process from here to reach the finish line, in a feasibility study.
Milestones:
* Winter completed drilling
* Complete pre-feasibility study by Q2 2010
* 2014 production
About the Author
Iron man was popular in the comics before the movie came out?
In most of the comics as Spiderman battles with Thor and Hulk Iron Man, Captain America even lost. But after the film is so popular.with all his science could not defeat any others that hero.if has never happened please mention.
DC Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman as his main characters. Marvel has Captain America, Thor and Iron Man While not all of them can be a list of other comics market, the fans, who are the best. Iron Man has been one of the most profitable since its appearance Marvel initial. The film catapulted him to the mainstream. But there is a reason that was Marvel's first choice to build their movie studio. Thor is a god, can not be beat. Hulk could also be a God, can not be beat. It's the same for Spider-Man more than once, and can kick the shit out of Captain America. (Unless Cap that is having a good day. Depends on the writer)
