Book Review: Home for Christmas, Stories for young and old Compiled by Miriam Leblanc

good Christmas so many stories about the promise season

This holiday season I spent the time to read this excellent collection of short stories in electronic form, intriguing Christmas. All speak of the promise of the season: kindness, generosity, although each story of a miracle of a class. The collection subtitled, "Stories for young and old" is a valid description of the paperback 332 pages compiled by Miriam LeBlanc, illustrated by David G. Klein and published by Orbis Books, Maryknoll, New York.

This book has the seal of approval for this reader, and I quote the note at the beginning of the book by Emmy Arnold. I think this is the right stamp of approval on our America contemporary:

"Even though Christmas is exploited for profit, although its meaning is often damaged, is still the time of year feel the urge to think of others. It remains the season of anticipation and joy. The brightness and fragrance of a Christmas tree in establishing gifts - Here is light and heat, this is life and love. "

Christmas for me this year has been marked by the reading of this title, as one of three I've used for my devotion. The other: "Run, Shepherds, Run: Poems for Advent and Christmas", by L. William Countryman, "Watch for the Light: Readings Advent and Christmas. " Home for Christmas "was what I chose as a companion to these two books" ... for those wishing to follow the readouts sequential daily ... "I stayed in the book of stories, not read sequentially, but on a daily basis. Some of the authors are Pearl Buck, Candille Rebecca, Ruth Sawyer, Groudge Isabel, Selma Lagerlöf, Henry van Dyke. There are many stories in this book, and say "surprises" to the reading had an excellent season, which for some who want or need to tell a story of Christmas is this excellent source. Among many others, I liked, "The Riders from Saint Nicholas "was a good western history." The day dawned calm and clear, cold country Winternight º high persistence the air ... "Nice start. It's like the others a clear history that these carry the special character and a Christmas gift for the reader, keeping the reader in mind the spirit of the season.

Some may say that these are too corny. Like "The Chess Player by Ger Koopman speaking of an old away from his daughter and grandson. But since this is the magical season of kindness, peace and goodwill, the theme of reconciliation between them rings true. So five stars to it, for this is another of the family stories that surround a gifted sound. No corny!

I was in my reading, finishing the book before the 12 days of Christmas had finished. Today is December 28, 2006, and I still feel the extraordinary story of God and special character of "The Christmas Rose" by Selma Lagerlöf. Strike in very beginning of the story: "Thief Mother, who lived in the cave of thieves in Forest Going down to the village one day tour of begging." Yes, Christmas is for the alienated, the marginalized, the poor, old and sacred. Because there are miracles and promises - even the unusual beauty. This story tells of a visit Abad a garden in the forest. For me, it was almost a story as a myth. I liked the magical nature of the forest garden.

I left off telling you, reader, many other good stories, including the visit of the Kings giving gifts, and the empty cup for a child who fills the life of a disturbed woman who lost a son.

Here's one I say, well then just tell the content. "The Other Wise Man" by Henry van Dyke. I quote from the beginning: "You know the story Three Kings of Orient, and how they traveled from afar to offer their gifts at the manger-cradle in Bethlehem. But have you ever heard the story of the other Wise Man, that also saw the star on his way out, and started to follow but did not arrive with his brethren in the presence of young child Jesus? "

What I think this book can become for readers is a memorable book of good stories, "... for young and old ...", a generous selection of stories Christmas likes to read and remember. Thank God for Christmas, and especially thank God for good books that warm the heart and remind us of the spirit of the season: "Home for Christmas: Stories for young and old."
